When it comes to growing a beautiful lawn, there's nothing minuscule about the humble microclover. This nitrogen-fixing plant is the unexpected superhero that can transform common problems like lawn patchiness, seasonal decline in greenery, and poor foliage density.

Scientifically known as Trifolium repens, there's no question as to why the microclover is such a popular lawn alternative: Not only does it blend nicely with different turf grasses, but it is also simple to cultivate, requires little upkeep, and naturally improves soil health.

Microclover seed also pairs well with popular grass seed varieties, including Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue. Get your own premium quality Microclover seeds from Nature's Seed today.

Many years of natural selection have resulted in revolutionary microclovers with all the benefits of traditional clover packed into very tiny leaves.

Microclover® "spoon feeds" nitrogen to the grass, producing a healthy, dense, and naturally green lawn. It helps out-compete weeds and keeps grass green all season long.

  • All the benefits of traditional white clover packed into very tiny leaves
  • Tolerates closer mowing than standard white clover
  • It is an ideal lawn alternative for those wanting low-maintenance lawns
  • Its natural growth habit acts as a natural fertilizer
  • Comes coated and inoculated
  • Prefers full sun and is not naturally shade-tolerant

Why Micro Clover Seeds Are a Great Lawn Alternative

Microclover is similar to Dutch white clover, which is traditionally planted on properties whose soil needs some health improvement. Similarly, this genetically dwarf clover combination adds nitrogen to your soil and improves the health of new and old grass lawns. Here's how:

Reason #1: Microclover Provides Improved Density and Robustness

Microclover is a legume that contribues to nitrogen fixation. By drawing in atmospheric nitrogen and transforming it into organic nitrogen in a form that can nourish turf grasses, microclover "spoon feeds" this nutrient to the ground cover. This results in easy-to-maintain turf grass that is robust, dense, and brilliantly green.

Reason #2: Microclover is Drought-Tolerant

When partnered with turf grass, Microclover can help a lawn increase its drought tolerance. This means a greener and lusher lawn throughout spring and summer. Plus, this perennial clover remains greener for much longer than other turf grasses during even the coldest conditions.

Reason #3: Microclover Makes Maintenance Easier

Microclover can make your life easier in several ways:

  • Since microclover grass grows vigorously and densely, it crowds out existing weeds and prevents new ones, protecting your lawn against dangerous diseases and being dried out
  • Due to its even growth habit, microclover requires less mowing and fertilization, guaranteeing shorter and greener coverage throughout its peak growing months from early spring to early fall!

What does this mean for you? Less time spent outside perfecting how your lawn looks. You might even notice your neighbors envying how little work your microclover lawn requires!

How to Seed Microclover On Your Property

Seeding your own property saves money and allows you to control the type of grass and plants growing on your land, but using high-quality seeds is essential.

Buying from a trusted source like Nature's Seed ensures that your lawn or garden will thrive and stay vibrant. Taking the time to seed your property correctly can also benefit the surrounding environment by providing a healthy ecosystem for wildlife, improving air and soil quality, and preventing soil erosion.

The good news? Micro clover lawn seed can do just that.

Micro Clover On an Existing Lawn

Microclover grass can create a vibrant and healthy green lawn when combined with other types of heat, drought, and frost-resistant lawn grasses, such as Kentucky bluegrass, zoysia grass seed, or perennial ryegrass seed blends.

When introducing microclover grass to an existing lawn, make sure that you:

  • Aerate the soil before cutting, and be sure to mow close to the soil surface
  • Continually sow at a rate of 1 pound for 1,000 square feet

Micro Clover On a New Lawn

There are plenty of reasons you might need to build a new lawn: Whether you've bought a new property or your current lawn is dying to no avail, you can create a healthy and vibrant lawn with ease as long as you know how to do it.

If you're building an entirely new lawn from scratch using microclover, here's what you need to know:

  • Remove preexisting vegetation by tilling, digging, or with a sod-cutter.
  • Rake site to loosen and smooth out the soil surface. Remove any large stones, clumps, or other debris.
  • Use a broadcast spreader on the smallest setting to sow the seed. Clover seed is very small, so it is beneficial to mix it with inert matter to help it distribute better. 2-3 parts sand to 1 part seed.
  • After sowing the seed, lightly rake the area again to work seeds into the soil (no more than 1/4-1/8 inch deep).
  • Keep the area constantly moist throughout the germination period of 7-15 days.
