Similar to sorghum, sundangrass is a warm-season, annual bunchgrass. It produces large amounts of biomass and acts as an excellent weed suppressor. Very tolerant to hot, dry weather. Can be used for forage, but care must be exercised when grazed because of prussic and hydrocyanic acid content. Sudangrass is quick growing and adapted to a wide range of soils. Can be planted in areas that receive at least 15 inches of annual precipitation.
Scientific name: Sorghum bicolor ssp. drummondii
